HC Deb 14 November 1986 vol 105 c219 9.35 am
Mr. Guy Barnett (Greenwich)

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg to ask leave to present a petition on behalf of those who work at, and depend upon the services of the neurosciences units at the Brook hospital in the London borough of Greenwich.

The Humble Petition of the Representatives of the People served by, and the Staff of, the South-East Thames Regional Neurosciences Units at the Brook General Hospital Greenwich, sheweth: That the South East Thames Regional Health Authority propose to move The Regional Neurosciences Units more centrally into London from the Brook General Hospital to a large, new Centre for Neurosciences, when it is built, at Denmark Hill thereby distancing it from Kent and changing the Managing Authority.

The petition is signed by those who depend on, or have depended on those units and by the staff. The petitioners will also present a petition this morning to the Secretary of State which contains no fewer than 200,000 signatures. Those signatures come not just from the London borough of Greenwich but from those living in Kent who are dependent on the services provided by the units and who fear that moving them further into central London will be to their disadvantage.

I beg leave to present the petition.

To lie upon the Table.
