HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 c1081
Mr. David Winnick (Walsall, North)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. At the beginning of each Parliament, resolutions are passed on free and easy access to the House. When I arrived today at Carriage Gate, I was told by a policeman that I should wait because the Prime Minister's car was due to arrive. If a car—whether the Prime Minister's or any other person's—was due to arrive immediately, I would hardly need the caution of a policeman. Because the policeman was so insistent that I should wait, I did so; but the Prime Minister's car did not arrive for a good one minute. I had said to the policeman that Question Time was due to begin, but it made no impression on him. May I take it that the Prime Minister is given such special preferential treatment that hon. Members are supposed to wait at Carriage Gate until her car arrives in due course?

Mr. Speaker

Perhaps the policeman was looking after the hon. Member's health to ensure that he arrived here safely before Question Time. I shall, of course, look into the matter.
