HC Deb 14 March 1986 vol 93 c1315 9.35 am
Mr. Gerald Bowden (Dulwich)

I beg leave, Mr. Speaker, to present a petition on behalf of my constituents who live in Therapia road, Marmora road and Scutari road, east Dulwich. Those are quite residential side streets which have recently been used by heavy vehicles, particularly buses. The number 63 bus has a turning point when it comes to the end of its route at Honor Oak and that has caused unwarranted wear and tear on the surface of those side roads, which have not been constructed to take such traffic, has caused vibrations to the surrounding buildings and has had a deleterious effect on the houses there. In particular, it has left parents in fear for their children who had previously been able to play freely on those quiet side streets.

My petitioners urge the Secretary of State for Transport to regulate these roads in such a way that heavy vehicles, particularly London Transport buses, do not use these roads as a means of passage. I wholeheartedly support my petitioners.

To lie upon the Table.
