HC Deb 20 January 1986 vol 90 cc9-10
7. Mr. Raffan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will agree to Delyn borough council's application to extend the Delyn enterprise zone to include No. 1 and No. 2 sites at what was formerly Courtaulds, Greenfield.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

I have received an application from Delyn borough council for the extension of the Delyn enterprise zone to include the Courtaulds Greenfield site. I shall, of course, give very careful consideration to this, but I could not now anticipate the outcome.

Mr. Raffan

As regards the application to extend the zone, will my right hon. Friend take account of the fact that only 136 acres out of the 260 at present included in the zone are available for industrial development? Does he agree that the availability of land within the zone is crucial if the efforts now being made to rebuild Delyn's industrial base are to succeed?

Mr. Edwards

I can certainly take full account of the points that my hon. Friend has put to me. As he knows, we are honouring our commitment to support the borough council's efforts to develop the enterprise zone at Delyn and to create alternative employment opportunities there. We have announced special capital applications of £1.8 million for the continued development of the zone, and we shall be announcing urban programme allocations shortly.
