§ 57. Mr. Soamesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further aid he proposes to make available to Mozambique.
§ Mr. RaisonAs I told Mozambican Ministers on 28 January, I am making available to Mozambique additional capital aid of £6 million for developmental purposes and £1 million for emergency relief.
§ Mr. SoamesI note my right hon. Friend's answer. Will he tell the House what the existing aid programme is being spent on in Mozambique?
§ Mr. RaisonWe are already providing £6.7 million for capital aid and £1.3 million for manpower aid. In addition a substantial amount of the money that we have pledged to the Southern African development co-ordination conference is also intended for use in Mozambique.
§ Mr. Bowen WellsWill my right hon. Friend tell us the main topics of conversation with the President of Mozambique at the recent Southern African development co-ordination conference which he attended last week?
§ Mr. RaisonI attended that conference but the President of Mozambique did not, so I did not have any conversations with him. However, I did have conversations with his Foreign Minister, Minister of Finance and Minister of Transport. I told them about our new offer to their country. They were extremely pleased and we had very constructive discussions.
