HC Deb 18 December 1986 vol 107 c1366 4.25 pm
Mr. Denzil Davies (Llanelli)

I beg to ask leave to move the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order No. 20 for the purpose of discussing a specific and important matter that should have urgent consideration, namely, the need for an independent and urgent inquiry into the purchase of a new airborne early warning system for the Royal Air Force. The matter is self-evidently specific. It is important because vital issues of national defence, British industry and public finance arc involved. It is certainly urgent because since the Government have taken a decision in principle, there must be a debate before contracts are signed with Boeing.

Mr. Speaker

The right hon. Gentleman asks leave to move the Adjournment of the House for the purpose of discussing a specific and important matter that he thinks should have urgent consideration, namely, the need for an independent and urgent inquiry into the purchase of a new airborne early warning system for the Royal Air Force". I am satisfied that the matter raised by the right hon. Member is a proper one to be discussed under Standing Order No. 20. Does the right hon. Gentleman have the leave of the House?

The leave of the House having been given, the motion stood over, under Standing Order No. 20, until Seven o'clock this evening.
