HC Deb 17 May 1985 vol 79 c617 9.35 am
Mr. Roland Boyes (Houghton and Washington)

I have the honour to present a petition containing more than 500,000 signatures of United Kingdom residents who oppose the use of the LD50 test on animals. The signatures have been collected nationwide and indicate the strength of feeling against that barbaric, obnoxious and, above all, unnecessary test.

The LD50 test is an acute toxicity test and is administerd without pain relief. The purpose of the lethal dose 50 test is to determine the level needed to kill 50 per cent. of the animals in any test, and the animals suffer greatly.

I am pleased to associate myself with the petition.

To lie upon the Table.
