§ 19. Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what contribution he envisages tourism makes to regional policy, and vice versa.
§ Mr. Norman LamontTourism can make a positive contribution to employment in assisted areas, and tourism projects in those areas may also qualify in certain circumstances for regional assistance.
§ Mr. AdleyAs flourishing regional airports are fundamental to an effective regional policy and to the growth of regional tourism, will my hon. Friend give the House a categorical assurance that he will do all that he can to encourage the growth of traffic at regional airports outwith the south-east of England?
§ Mr. LamontI recall that my hon. Friend led previous opposition to Maplin and Stansted on regional policy grounds. In view of the statement that may be made in two minutes' time, this is a case of my not venturing where angels fear to tread.
