HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 c785 3.41 pm
Mr. Derek Conway (Shrewsbury and Atcham)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I raised with you at midday today my intention to raise under Standing Order No. 10 a matter—

Mr. Speaker

Order. The hon. Gentleman must not say that.

Mr. Conway

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I seek your guidance on how I can raise a matter of particular and singular importance to my constituency. Throughout the Christmas recess and as recently as yesterday, there has been considerable national coverage of the allegations made in the House on 19 December by the hon. Member for Linlithgow (Mr. Dalyell) who has, in the view of my constituents, impeded the apprehension of the murderer of my former constituent, Miss Hilda Murrell, by giving information to the House on 19 December which the police have subsequently denied. The hon. Gentleman alleged British secret service and intelligence involvement in the murder of Miss Murrell.

It is important that the House should have the opportunity to hear the reply to the hon. Member's allegations and to urge him to cease impeding the police in their inquiries.

Mr. Speaker

First of all, the hon. Gentleman should not raise in the House matters that he has discussed privately with me. Secondly, his point of order is not a matter for me. No doubt he had the opportunity to be present for the debate on 19 December and he must find other ways of pursuing that matter.
