HC Deb 16 April 1985 vol 77 cc233-5 10.57 pm
Mr. David Gilroy Bevan (Birmingham, Yardley)

I wish to present two humble petitions from the citizens of Birmingham resident within the electoral constituency of Yardley. The first, signed by 635 persons, states That the proposals contained in the transport Bill 1985 will have a detrimental effect on the residents of the City of Birmingham who use public transport, will put in jeopardy the West Midlands Passenger Transport integrated transport system … will threaten the country wide concessionary fares scheme used by Senior Citizens, disabled, unemployed and school children, and will cause further loss of jobs in the transport industry within the Birmingham area, and will also have a damaging effect on those who remain working within the industry and those engaged in the bus building industry. Wherefore your petitioners pray that your honourable House reject the Transport Bill 1985.

To lie upon the Table.

Secondly, I present a petition signed by 740 of my electors. They humbly petition as citizens of Birmingham and members of the Sheldon Residents Association That the House recognise the implication and full extent of the drastic and outrageous 43 per cent. Rates increase to be levied by the City of Birmingham District Council. Wherefore your petitioners pray humbly that your reject the proposal made by the City of Birmingham District Council.

I join them.

To lie upon the Table.
