Mr. ShawThese amendments make the custody officer responsible for directing the release of a person in police detention, irrespective of whether he is in a police station.

§ Lords amendment: No. 92, in page 28, line 33, at end insert—
"(5) For the purposes of this Part of this Act a person arrested under section 7(5) of the Road Traffic Act 1972 is arrested for an offence."

Mr. ShawThese amendments generalise the provisions of clause 36(2) in what I hope is agreed a sensible way.
