HC Deb 22 November 1984 vol 68 cc393-4
8. Mr. Bill Walker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will seek to obtain the full results of the research done with simulated nuclear explosions in the United States of America.

Mr. Waddington

The United States has already made its results available. In addition, the United Kingdom has participated in the last two trials at the White Sands range in New Mexico.

Mr. Walker

I thank my hon. and learned Friend for that reply. When the figures are published, will he ensure that they are in a form which allows us to understand the fission fragment elements of the research? Will he also ensure that a copy is placed in the Library of the House?

Mr. Waddington

The results of the research have been used in the review of the casualty and damage effects of nuclear weapons to be published next year. I assure my hon. Friend that a copy will be placed in the Library.

Mr. Rogers

Will the Minister tell us how much it costs to simulate a nuclear attack?

Mr. Waddington

No.
