HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c735
Mr. John Maxton (Glasgow, Cathcart)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. You will remember that last week there were elections throughout the United Kingdom. The Liberal and Social Democratic parties fought those elections as an alliance, not as separate parties. I ask you again, Mr. Speaker: when will we treat them in the House as one party, not as two?

Mr. Speaker

I say to the hon. Gentleman, as I say to the House, that that is not a matter for me. If any group of hon. Members wishes to regard itself as making up two parties, or 15 parties, that is not a matter for me. When I call hon. Members, I call them to speak on behalf of their constituents.

Mr. D. N. Campbell-Savours (Workington)

Mr. Dennis Skinner (Bolsover)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker

Order. No further point of order from the hon. Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner) on this matter.

Mr. Skinner

It is a different point of order.

Mr. Speaker

I shall call the hon. Member for Workington (Mr. Campbell-Savours) first.
