HC Deb 23 March 1984 vol 56 c1384

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object.

Second Reading deferred till Friday 6 July.

Mr. Greville Janner (Leicester, West)

On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. Is it in order for anonymous objection to be made from the Government Front Bench? In such circumstances, how can the Chair protect Back Benchers against the destruction of Bills which could do so much good for so many people?

Mr. Deputy Speaker (Mr. Ernest Armstrong)

The procedures laid down have been carried out. It has been in order.

Mr. Laurie Pavitt (Brent, South)

Further to that point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. I appreciate that the procedures have been carried out, but you may recall that when a similar protest was made by the Opposition on a previous occasion in relation to the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons (Amendment) Bill it was suggested that you might be prepared to ask Mr. Speaker to ask the Procedure Committee to look into the matter. May I request again that the Procedure Committee be asked to examine it?

Mr. Deputy Speaker

Hon. Members are free to make their own requests. I assure the hon. Gentleman that Mr. Speaker carefully considers our deliberations. He will note what has been said.

Mr. Janner

further to that point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. Will the new Select Committee on Procedure, on which I shall have the honour to serve, have the power to deal with this matter?

Mr. Deputy Speaker

As I understand it, yes.
