HC Deb 19 March 1984 vol 56 c703
42. Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the Government will increase their financial support for the international fund for agricultural development.

Mr. Raison

We are willing to contribute to the fund's second replenishment provided the other donors, including the OPEC countries, do so. The whole basis of the fund is a partnership between the OECD and OPEC countries.

Mr. Fisher

How much is the Minister, on behalf of Britain, intending to contribute to the fund? Is he aware that currently we are contributing less than Nigeria?

Mr. Raison

This is a complicated matter. It falls within the original fund, the first replenishment and the possibility of a second replenishment. All that I can say is that if other countries do their bit, we are prepared to do ours.
