§ 15. Mr. Nicholas Bakerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about the regulation of traffic in central London.
§ Mr. BakerWill my right hon. Friend inform himself about the traffic experiments being conducted by the Metropolitan police, with often unnecessary mini-roundabouts and traffic lights such as those at Hyde Park corner, which actually slow the traffic down rather than hurrying it up? Will he discourage the Commissioner from undertaking such experiments?
§ Mr. HurdThe Commissioner has been removing policemen from traffic duties. I should not like to speculate as to the effect of that on the traffic. I shall look into the point that my hon. Friend raises. A large part of our correspondence on these matters complains of too much regulation, while most of the rest complains that there is too little.
