§ Mr. Alfred Dubs (Battersea)I beg leave to present a petition, Mr. Speaker, on behalf of the Action Group on Immigration and Nationality and more than 4,000 petitioners—a petition that has my wholehearted support—which seeks to show that the British Nationality Act 1981 and the Immigration Act 1971 are unjust. The petitioners go on to request:
- 1. To restore the principle of automatic citizenship by birth in the United Kingdom and confer British citizenship on British Overseas citizens with no other citizenship,
- 2. To restore the rights of Commonwealth citizens settled in the United Kingdom before 1973,
- 3. To establish a nationality appeals system and a citizen's right to a passport,
- 4. To reform the immigration law to conform to international standards on human rights, respect family life and respect racial and sexual equality.
§ To lie upon the Table.
