HC Deb 28 June 1984 vol 62 c1152
16. Rev. William McCrea

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he last met the Chief Constable and police representatives of Northern Ireland; and what subjects were discussed.

Mr. Scott

My right hon. Friend and I met the Chief Constable and representatives of the Police Federation on 20 June to discuss the development of social and recreational facilities for the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

Rev. William McCrea

In his discussions with the Chief Constable and representatives of the Police Federation, did the Secretary of State pledge total support for the federation in fulfilling its obligations to provide adequate recreational facilities for its members? Does the Minister agree that it is a shame that the Chief Constable should interfere in the provision of recreational facilities, especially when the money came out of federation finances?

Mr. Scott

The Royal Ulster Constabulary and the police authority have developed a plan for the provision of recreational facilities for the RUC. The Police Federation asked my right hon. Friend for a decision on the future of the Kilroot facilities and my right hon. Friend hopes to be able to make that decision in the next few days.
