HC Deb 06 July 1984 vol 63 cc667-8

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

Second Reading what day? No day named.

Mr. Wareing

Further to that point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

Order. I hope that the hon. Gentleman will not try to abuse his privileges as a Member of the House. I have ruled very clearly on more than one occasion, and I should be reluctant to listen to him unless he had some substantially different point that he wished to raise.

Mr. Wareing

I merely wanted to ask that what has occurred today will be reported to Mr. Speaker and that perhaps a request might be made to Mr. Speaker to make a statement to the House, which we could discuss, on the procedures that we are going through at the moment.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

I assure the hon. Gentleman that Mr. Speaker is an avid reader of the Official Report. But I say again that this is not primarily a matter for Mr. Speaker. It is a matter for the House itself. If the House is dissatisfied with the existing procedures, arrangements can be made to have the procedures discussed and, if necessary, amended.
