HC Deb 02 July 1984 vol 63 cc11-2
4. Mr. Orme

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will make a statement on the Sleipner contract.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

A decision will be taken as soon as possible.

Mr. Orme

Will the Minister make a statement before the recess, as the Select Committee asked? Will he confirm or deny rumours that the Government will allow North sea gas to be exported, which could affect both stocks and prices?

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

As the right hon. Gentleman knows, this is an important matter with far-reaching effects throughout the United Kingdom economy. No decision has yet been reached, so at this stage I cannot say whether a statement will be made. Once the decision is reached, we shall inform the House.
