HC Deb 11 December 1984 vol 69 c1026 11.31 pm
Mr. Albert McQuarrie (Banff and Buchan)

I beg leave to present a petition from the ministers and members of the church congregations in the Banff and Buchan constituency. The petition contains 449 signatures and was initiated by Rev. David J. Randall of Doune Manse, Macduff, and the other ministers in the constituency.

The petitioners believe that the newly fertilised human embryo is a real living individual human being, and oppose all practices which discriminate against the embryo, or violate his, or her, human dignity and right to life.

The petition continues as follows: Wherefore your petitioners pray that the House of Commons will take immediate steps to enact legislation which forbids any procedure that involves purchase or sale of human embryos; the discarding of human embryos; their use as sources of transplant tissue; or as subjects for research or experiment (unless this is done solely for the embryo concerned). The petition initiated by Rev. David Randall, and the others to whom I referred, concludes: And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray for the guidance of Almighty God upon all your deliberations etc.

To lie upon the Table.
