HC Deb 27 October 1983 vol 47 c411
2. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been paid from the Contingencies Fund so far in the current year for purposes connected with the Falkland Islands.

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Peter Rees)

Nothing.

Mr. Dalyell

Is Falklands expenditure one of the reasons why the offsetting item of "general allowance shortfall" should have been nil in 1981–82, but increased to £950 million in 1982–83 and is £1,200 million for 1983–84? What other explanation is there?

Mr. Rees

Precise provision for expenditure in the Falklands has been made. That can be judged from the most recent public expenditure White Paper.
