§ Mr. Jim Callaghan (Middleton and Prestwich)I thank you, Mr. Speaker, for allowing me to present to the House this humble petition signed by the citizens of the north-west region of England.
The petition has been organised by his Grace Bishop Holland of the diocese of Salford, and this day contains 100,000 signatures and sheweth that the signatories
wholly oppose the decision of the Department of State for Education and Science to terminate initial teacher training courses at De La Salle College, Middleton, Manchester.Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House will do all in its power to persuade the Secretary of State for Education and Science to reverse the decision to terminate initial teacher training courses at De La Salle College, Manchester.And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will every pray for a reversal of the Minister's decision.
