HC Deb 05 July 1983 vol 45 c157
Mr. Stuart Randall (Kingston upon Hull, West)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. First, I apologise to you and the House for not having given you notice before 12 o'clock today, but I beg to ask leave to move the Adjournment of the House under Standing Order No. 10, because I feel that we should have a debate to discuss a specific and important matter which should have urgent attention.

It is specific because it is about the effect—

Mr. Speaker

Order. I must stop the hon. Gentleman there. I fully understand that he is a new Member, but I am afraid that I cannot entertain his application now, because it should have been made before 12 o'clock.

Mr. Randall

I just wanted to say that I received a telex on the matter after 12 o'clock.

Mr. Speaker

That is as may be, but I am afraid that I cannot entertain the application on this day. I have to receive notice as soon after 12 o'clock as practicable in such cases and I must stick to the rules.
