HC Deb 25 January 1983 vol 35 cc781-2
20. Mr. Dykes

asked the Secretary of. State for Education and Science if he is satisfied with the ways in which computers in schools are being used for educational purposes.

Mr. William Shelton

Schools are using microcomputers in a great variety of ways and I believe that good progress is being made.

Mr. Dykes

Does the experience of the past year and a half show that perhaps more sophisticated machines should be installed for next year to give a wider range of experience?

Mr. Shelton

No, I do not agree with my hon. Friend. I do not think that there is a major problem with hardware. If a problem exists, it lies in the sophistication of some of the software that has been provided.
