HC Deb 11 March 1982 vol 19 c964
21. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent he takes into account the effect on manufacturing concerns in public ownership, such as British Leyland, in assessing measures designed to stimulate demand in the economy.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

The finances of all concerns in public ownership are taken fully into account when we assess Government expenditure and borrowing.

Mr. Dalyell

Does the Chancellor agree that, as to the proposed sale of the tractor line at Bathgate, the Treasury should be fully informed about the public expenditure consequences of what happens?

Sir Geoffrey Howe

The sale is a matter for the board of British Leyland.
