§ Mr. SpeakerI have not selected the proposed Instruction.
§ Considered in Committee.
§ [Mr. BERNARD WEATHERILL in the Chair.]
§ Clauses 1 and 2 ordered to stand part of the Bill.
§ The Chairman of Ways and MeansI have selected only new clause 2 for debate.
§ Mr. Douglas Jay (Battersea, North)On a point of order, Mr. Weatherill. Is it not proposed to call new clause 1, in my name and those of several of my hon. Friends? It raises a number of issues which are central to the Bill. I wonder whether you could give me some guidance on your treatment of that new clause?
§ The ChairmanThe right hon. Member for Battersea, North (Mr. Jay) knows that it is never the practice of the Chair to explain why amendments have not been selected, but I may say to him that his clause is outside the scope of the Bill and was not selected for that reason.
