HC Deb 09 July 1982 vol 27 c587

Lords amendment: No. 10, after clause 4, insert the following new clause— F. An Order in Council under paragraph 1(1)(b) of schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974 (legislation for Northern Ireland in the interim period) which contains a statement that it is made only for purposes corresponding to the purposes of this Act—

  1. (a) shall not be subject to paragraph 1(4) and (5) of that Schedule (affirmative resolution of both Houses of Parliament); but
  2. (b) shall be subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House."

Mr. Abse

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said amendment.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

With this we may take Lords amendment No. 13.

Mr. Abse

The amendments simply regularise the position on Northern Ireland. The law concerning the forfeiture rule in Northern Ireland is broadly similar to that in England and Wales. Amendment No. 10 allows corresponding provision to be made for Northern Ireland, but by Order in Council subject to negative rather than affirmative resolution in Parliament.

Question put and agreed to.
