HC Deb 21 December 1982 vol 34 c819
14. Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will meet the Confederation of British Industry to discuss future developments in industrial relations.

Mr. Tebbit

Yes, Sir. We are always willing to meet the CBI and the TUC to discuss industrial relations issues. The CBI frequently takes up that invitation and I expect it to do so again in the near future.

Mr. Knox

Does my right hon. Friend agree that it is important to consolidate the recent improvement in industrial relations? Does he further agree that greater employee participation has an important part to play in this process? Will he impress this on CBI leaders?

Mr. Tebbit

Yes. The leaders of the CBI are, I think, well aware of the need to increase the involvement of workers in businesses of all kinds. They have been conducting a campaign within the CBI to that end. That campaign has the support of the Government, although we do not believe that it would be right to enforce these matters by legislation.
