HC Deb 07 July 1981 vol 8 c359

Lords amendment: No. 5, in page 21, line 19, leave out from "to" to end of line 20 and insert "a fine".

Mr. Kenneth Baker

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said amendment.

Mr. Speaker

With this we may take Lords amendment No. 6.

Mr. Baker

The amendments remove the penalty of imprisonment for the offences in clauses 17 and 18. In the light of consultations following the tabling of the amendments in another place, we concluded that imprisonment would not be an appropriate penalty. Therefore, the penalty on indictment will simply be an unlimited fine.

Question put and agreed to.

Lords amendment No. 6 agreed to.
