HC Deb 21 July 1980 vol 989 cc190-1

in column 229

Question accordingly negatived.

Mr. Speaker

I now call the right hon. Member for Sunderland, North (Mr. Willey) to move his amendment formally, if he wishes.

Mr. Frank Hooley (Sheffield, Heeley)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I am somewhat bewildered by the contradictory decisions that the House has taken about this debate. Is it in order to continue to debate amendments (g), (h) and (i) and motion No. 4 and the two related amendments?

Mr. Speaker

It will be in order, unless the House later decides that the time has come to bring the debate to a conclusion. I remind the House that, although there were loud cries for the closure, we have to bear in mind that minorities also have a right to be heard.

Amendment proposed: (g), in line 22, leave out ' £ 13,150' and insert ' £ 13,750'.—[Mr. Willey.]

Question put, That the amendment be made:—

The House divided: Ayes 213, Noes 174.
