HC Deb 03 July 1980 vol 987 c1934
Mr. King

I beg to move amendment No. 63. in page 18, line 27, leave out 'subsection' and insert 'subsections'.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

With this it is convenient to take Government amendments Nos. 64 and 65.

Mr. King

These are technical amendments to clarify points on the payment of allowances to councillors. This has to do with the pay and allowances for joint committees and boards. It provides for the payment of allowances to their members for attending conferences and meetings. It is possible for councils to make payment, but at the moment joint committees are not covered. This has the support of the local authority associations and, I believe, the support of the House.

Amendment agreed to.

Amendments made: No. 64, in page 18, line 35, at end add— '(3B) In relation to any such body as is mentioned in section 177(1)(d) or (e) below this section applies to a conference or meeting held and convened as mentioned in subsection (3) above for the purpose of discussing matters which in the body's opinion relate

  1. (a) to the functions of the body; or
  2. (b) to any functions of local authorities in which the body has an interest'.

No. 65, in page 18, line 39, at end add— '(5) The following subsection shall be inserted after section 47(3) of the said Act of 1973: (3A) In relation to any such body as is mentioned in section 49(1)(c) or (d) below this section applies to a conference or meeting held and convened as mentioned in subsection (3) above for the purpose of discussing matters which in the body's opinion relate

  1. (a) to the functions of the body; or
  2. (b) to any functions of local authorities in which the body has an interest.".'.—[Mr. Fox.]
