HC Deb 28 March 1979 vol 965 c446
9. Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is now in a position to announce a decision on the bridge over the M20 motorway at Saltwood, the details of which were sent to him in February.

Mr. Horam

No, Sir, but I am writing shortly to the hon. Gentleman to explain the situation.

Mr. Costain

Does the hon. Gentleman appreciate that this work is proceeding at the present time? Will he bear in mind that he was once a candidate in that constituency? Does he realise that he would lose even more votes now if there is not an early decision which will improve the economy of the nation?

Mr. Horam

I remember that on one occasion I was a candidate for Folkestone and Hythe, when there was the biggest swing to Labour that there has ever been in that constituency. None the less, I failed to win it. I take the hon. Gentleman's point, and I shall be writing to him. It is a complicated situation, but I hope to write to him within the next few days.
