HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 c1463 10.31 pm
Mr. Alan Clark (Plymouth, Sutton)

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg leave to present a petition from the National Housewives Association which is supported by 10,314 people. It relates to the restrictions on the import of New Zealand meat and dairy products. The petition was organised by the National Housewives Association but its support is not confined to its membership. With your leave, Mr. Speaker, I shall read the petition. It states: To the Honourable The Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament Assembled. The humble Petition of The National Housewives Association. Sheweth:— That there is great concern at the way New Zealand producers of farm products are being treated regarding the threatened restrictions to their lamb and dairy products, and that this should be urgently considered by Parliament, the Government and the European Commission. Wherefore your petitioners humbly pray that your honourable house will do all in its power to ensure that supplies of Iamb and dairy products from New Zealand into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland continue and that levies and tariffs are kept at the lowest levels, thus providing consumers with benefits from low prices and support New Zealand's right to trade here and ensure the livelihood of the New Zealand producers. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray &c.

I beg leave to present the petition.

To lie upon the Table.
