Motion made, and Question,

That provision may be made—

  1. (a) for excluding from a wife's earned income for the purposes of section 8(2)(b) of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1970 and Schedule 4 to the Finance Act 1971 so much of a Category A retirement pension as is attributable to an increase under section 10 of the Social Security Pensions Act 1975 or the Northern Ireland equivalent;
  2. (b) for redefining "basic retirement pension" in section 16 of the said Act of 1970 in terms of the basic component of a Category A retirement pension; and
  3. (c) for adding Part II of the Social Security Pensions Act 1975 and the Northern Ireland equivalent to the enactments referred to in section 219(1) of the said Act of 1970.—[Sir Geoffrey Howe.]
