HC Deb 07 February 1979 vol 962 cc496-7
Mr. Moyle

I beg to move amendment no. 42, in page 11, line 25, at end insert— '(3A) The National Boards are responsible for providing the authorities with advice and guidance in respect of the exercise of their functions under this section.'. This is a technical amendment dealing with the role of the national boards in relation to midwifery practice. Midwives work under supervising authorities, which are usually health authorities. They are listed in the Bill.

The amendment is intended to make plain that the national boards are also able to provide advice and guidance to the supervising authorities. That was not clear in the original drafting, and the amendment is intended to make sure that it is understood that the midwifery committees of national boards can advise the supervising health authorities on the matters set out in the amendment.

Amendment agreed to.
