HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 cc10-1
6. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for Trade when he expects to be able to make a full statement on the first report of the Interim Action Committee on the Film Industry.

Mr. Meacher

As soon as I have completed the necessary consultations and consideration.

Mr. Jenkins

In holding those consultations and making those considerations, may I ask my hon. Friend to take into full consideration the proposals he has received and is to receive from the Interim Action Committee? Will he also consider the possibility that he might take some useful action in relation to the British film industry without waiting for legislation?

Mr. Meacher

We shall certainly be undertaking the consultations on the basis of the Interim Action Committee's report. My hon. Friend can rest assured that there are a number of issues, in particular the publication of more information about the Eady returns, which I am considering and which, I think, will give interim aid to the film industry.
