HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 cc1-2
1. Mr. Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what representations he has received about trade practices on the sale of caravans.

The Minister of State, Department of Prices and Consumer Protection (Mr. John Fraser)

I have received a number of complaints about undesirable practices connected with the sale of caravans. These particularly involved the sale of holiday caravans by certain site operators.

Mr. Ward

In view of the fact that there is a growing volume of these complaints, when does the Minister propose to introduce a code of practice, if only to govern certain practices by caravan site operators? Has there been a change of heart on the part of the Trellis Scott company about its practices in Wales?

Mr. Fraser

On the latter point I have heard from Mr. Dunstan, managing director of Trellis Scott, this morning. He asked if he could come to see me, and I shall gladly see him. On the code of practice, I shall discuss a proposal with the National Federation of Site Operators, and the Director General of Fair Trading if necessary.
