§ 33. Mr. Ridleyasked the Lord President of the Council if he will cause to be erected in the House a statue of the late Stanley Baldwin.
§ Mr. FootI do not know whether there is a general desire in the House for this proposal. I suppose I should take into account the fiercely critical views which Leaders of the Conservative Party are inclined to take of their predecessors.
§ Mr. RidleySince the Prime Minister appears to emulate this statesman in every possible way, if he were ever to have a statue erected to himself, would it not be a good idea to have one erected to Stanley Baldwin first?
§ Mr. FootIf the hon. Member wants to attack the Prime Minister, he should discover a less roundabout way of doing it. Any attack from the hon. Member is a compliment. I suggest that he should first see whether he has any support for his idea from his hon. Friends.
