§ 16. Mr. Alan Clarkasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will introduce legislation to increase parental choice of schools.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsI refer the hon. Gentleman to what I told the House of my legislative proposals during the debate on the Queen's Speech on 4th November.
§ Mr. Nicholas WintertonDoes the Secretary of State agree that local and parish councils should continue to appoint a representative to school managing and governing bodies because, as often as not, such councils go out of their way to appoint a parent? Is that not part of the objectives that the Secretary of State is trying to achieve?
§ Mrs. WilliamsThe Taylor Report recommended that minor authorities should no longer have the right to nominate governors. I am giving serious consideration to that recommendation, because I am not absolutely certain that the report was right in that matter.
