§ Mr. Victor Goodhew (St. Albans)With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg leave to present a petition signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Redbourn Association, which represents some 570 housewives in Redbourn. The petition reads:
To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled—The humble petition of residents of Redbourn and its neighbourhood showeth that—the construction of an industrial waste treatment plant at Redbournbury will be prejudicial to the amenities of the area (to which green belt policies apply) and will lead to an unreasonable increase in traffic through Redbourn (which is already at intolerable levels). Wherefore your petitioners pray that your Honourable House will require the Department of the Environment and other authorities responsible for these matters—to prevent the building of such waste treatment plant and to institute an investigation of alternative sites on a regional basis as envisaged by the Control of Pollution Act 1974—to take steps to expedite the construction of by-passes around Redbourn.And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
