HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 cc1732-3
Mr. Speaker

I introduce a brief word of caution before we turn to the Prime Minister's Questions. I want the House to know how I propose to exercise my discretion in respect of the sub judice rule if there are questions about Grunwick. Questions which in general terms include the conduct of the police and the crowds will be allowed. However, in exercising my discretion in respect of the sub judice rule I shall disallow any reference to arrests where charges are pending or cases due to be heard. I think that this holds the balance between the rights of the House and avoiding creating prejudice about cases before the courts.
