HC Deb 22 October 1976 vol 917 c1835
Mr. Laurie Pavitt (Brent, South)

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg leave to present a petition signed by nearly 1,200 of my constituents and other interested persons including the whole of the Executive Committee of the Brent Trades Council. The petition is as follows: To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of the inhabitants of Brent sheweth that: The right of the Electricity and Gas Boards to disconnect the supply of energy should be terminated, and they should be left to recover fuel debts through the courts. The courts, in making an order against a consumer, should have the power to order the installation of a pre-payment meter to prevent any further debt from building up. There should be an immediate increase in Supplementary Pensions and Allowances to take account of the recent increase in electricity prices and projected increases in the coming year. Your petitioners respectfully pray that the House of Commons will enact legislation to meet this petition. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will humbly pray, etc.

To lie upon the Table.
