§ Mr. MillanI beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said amendment.
The amendment leaves out of the clause the requirement that an applicant for renewal of a licence, other than an off-sale licence, must produce a certificate about food hygiene from the local authority. The view was taken in the Lords that as the local authorities' public health officers will be exercising continuing supervision over licensed premises, as over other food premises, under the food and drugs legislation, there is no need for this further check at the time of the renewal of a licence. On balance I agree, 1551 although I do not feel strongly about the matter.
