HC Deb 27 May 1976 vol 912 c613
4. Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what restrictions on fishing are expected to be in force in the Man and Mourne fishing grounds in the Irish Sea during, the remainder of 1976.

Mr. Rees

Discussions are taking place with the industry about the restrictions on herring fishing to be applied this year in the northern part of the Irish Sea. The conservation measures for the Mourne fishery within 12 miles of the coast will not be finalised until the above discussions have been concluded.

Mr. Powell

Will the right hon. Gentleman do his best to ensure that whatever restrictions are imposed in the Irish Sea—both inside and outside the 12-mile limit and fully accepted by the Mourne fishermen—will be policed against all other parties as far as is humanly possible?

Mr. Rees

Yes, I can give that assurance.
