HC Deb 16 July 1976 vol 915 c1238

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object.

Mr. Bob Cryer (Keighley)

On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. May I point out that this excellent Bill is printed? I am not sure whether it is in order for the Whip, on instructions from the legislative sub-committee of the Cabinet, to shout "Object", thus avoiding debate on a Bill which would save £100 million for back strains and back injuries and reduce the 50,000 back injuries which occur in places of work every year in this country. May I have your ruling on whether it is in order for this attitude to be taken by the Government Whip on instructions from the Cabinet to oppose an excellent piece of legislation?

Mr. Deputy Speaker

What may or may not happen in the Cabinet, I am happy to say, is not the responsibility of the Chair. Second Reading what day?

Mr. Cryer

Friday 15th October.
