§ Mr. Denzil DaviesI beg to move Amendment No. 176, in page 79, line 13, after 'deceased', insert
'or the deceased died before 1st April 1977'.
§ Mr. DaviesThe amendments are designed to give the trustees of a discretionary trust, or a life tenant who may be thinking of giving up his interest in favour of the widow of the settlor, a period of grace in which to consider the effect of the clause. It is to meet a commitment to the hon. and learned Member for Dover and Deal (Mr. Rees) in Committee. He moved Amendment No. 730 then, to extend the period of exemption to two years from the passing of the Bill. We felt that was too long, but we agree that it is necessary to allow time to consider the matter, and it is therefore extended to 1st April 1977.
§ Amendment agreed to.
