HC Deb 15 December 1976 vol 922 cc1515-6
19. Mr. MacCormick

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will pay an official visit to the Isle of Islay.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

My right hon. Friend has, at present, no plans to do so.

Mr. MacCormick

Does the Minister appreciate, especially in view of what is likely to happen in the near future, that the Government should be thinking in terms of seeking to protect the Scottish whisky industry, of which the Isle of Islay is an important part?

Mr. MacKenzie

Matters concerning the taxation of whisky would be more properly directed at my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
