Dr. Owen

I beg to move Amendment No. 8, in page 7, line 18, at end insert (iii) his spouse is by reason of ill health, whether physical or mental, incapable of making an application for an adoption order.'. The effect of this amendment would be to enable one of a married couple to apply to adopt alone where a husband or wife is incapable of joining in the application because of physical or mental ill-health. This meets the undertaking that I gave to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Mrs. Knight).

Amendment made: No. 9, in page 7, line 25, leave out subsection (3).—[Dr. Owen.]

Dr. Owen

I beg to move Amendment No. 10, in page 8, line 2, leave out from 'child' to second 'the' in line 4.

This amendment removes a superfluous reference to Clause 32(5) from Clause 11(5) and brings its wording in line with that of Clause 10(4). This is mainly a drafting amendment.
