HC Deb 23 July 1975 vol 896 c573

4.21 p.m.

Mr. George Cunningham (Islington, South and Finsbury)

I am due at this point to move, That leave be given to bring in a Bill to suspend the payment of salaries to Ministers; and for purposes connected therewith.

[Laughter.]

It is clear from the response so far that the Bill would be carried with acclaim. However, I am mindful that the House debated that matter a little and certainly the general subject of salaries of Ministers and Members this morning until about two o'clock, and I sense that I should be thought to be imposing upon the House if I now spoke for 10 minutes on that subject.

Therefore, important though the subject matter is, I do not seek leave to bring in the Bill at this time, but I shall revert to the subject on another occasion if the House will allow me.
